There have been so many amazing advancements in the world of technology since the pioneering days of the first American homesteaders. Timeless wisdom that was lost when the age of convenience was ushered in a few decades ago has seen a revival in recent years, with information being easily accessible to anyone anywhere in the world. But with all of this technology, many of us feel a longing for good old-fashioned books, magazines and resources that we can hold in our hand, store safely on our shelf, bookmark, dog-ear and maybe even pass down to future generations.
For this reason (and so many more), we’re so excited to announce that we’re now offering the first ever annual edition of Modern Homesteading Magazine IN PRINT!
In each issue:

- Exclusive recipes for fresh eating and preserving

- Inspiring stories and timeless wisdom from homesteaders from all walks of life

How it all began…
A few years ago in 2019, after blogging about homesteading for a while on my personal blog The House & Homestead, I decided I wanted to go deeper with some of the topics I was covering, and put them together in a nicely designed and even printable format for readers to enjoy.
The first issue of Modern Homesteading Magazine launched in September of 2019. I put the entire thing together in a Word document on my computer and sent it out to the world. The response was fantastic with readers asking for more! So I continued publishing monthly issues for the next two years using little more than the amateur word processing software on my computer and fuelled by my passion for sharing this lifestyle with others.
For the first two years, Modern Homesteading Magazine was a short, monthly publication, with each issue focused on a different topic related to homesteading, self-reliance and sustainable living. From organic gardening and raising livestock to food preservation, herbal medicine and sourdough bread, we covered a wide range of topics in those first two years, with every issue and article ever published still accessible to subscribers in our digital library.
As the magazine grew, we brought an incredible graphic designer on board and transitioned from a monthly publication to an expanded quarterly edition. We also invited other writers to contribute, and another two years later Modern Homesteading Magazine has evolved into a collaborative project and has become so much more than I ever thought possible when I hit publish on that first issue!
How it’s going
Over the years, many readers have asked about a print edition. While digital is a fantastic medium that allows anyone anywhere to gain instant access to our library of issues, with so much of the world being digitized these days, many people want something tangible that they can hold in their hands, store on their shelves and refer back to again and again.
And so it is with great pleasure that I present you with the first ever annual edition of Modern Homesteading Magazine, which we hope to offer in print this coming winter (2023).
We are currently pre-selling to get a better idea of how many copies to print and to ensure that there is enough demand to offer this as an option going forward. Once the preorder period is over, we won’t be offering any more copies of this first annual print edition, so if you want to get your hands on a copy, don’t wait!

There’s a common misconception that in order to be a homesteader, you need 10 acres and a milk cow. But that couldn’t be further from the truth!
Homesteading is a mindset, first and foremost.
It’s an attitude of resilience and resourcefulness; A lifestyle based on the values self-reliance and sustainability.

I’m Anna, and I’m a city girl turned modern homesteader who’s passionate about growing, cooking and preserving real food at home, creating my own herbal medicine and all-natural home and body care products, and working toward a simpler, more sustainable, more self-sufficient life each and every day. And I’m equally passionate about helping others do the same!
I’ve been blogging about homesteading for the past 6 years, and while I LOVE sharing weekly homesteading-related content with my readers, I wanted to dive deeper into seasonally-themed topics and offer a more immersive reading experience for members of my community.
Modern Homesteading Magazine was born out of this idea and aims to offer readers homesteading advice and inspiration that goes beyond what I was able to offer on a blog format.
Whether you’ve been homesteading forever or you’re still just dreaming of a simpler, more self-sufficient life, each new issue of Modern Homesteading Magazine is all about helping and encouraging you on your homesteading journey, no matter where you are or how much experience you’ve got.
