About Modern
Homesteading Magazine

Modern Homesteading Magazine was created by Anna Sakawsky of The House & Homestead back in 2019 as a way to dive deeper into homesteading-related topics and content than she was able to on her blog. From the beginning, Anna’s goal has been to help educate and inspire anyone looking to get back to the land and live a more homemade, homegrown, self-sufficient lifestyle.
What began as a monthly digital download back in September 2019 has now grown into a robust quarterly digital publication full of seasonal homesteading tips, advice, recipes, ideas, inspiration and more. From organic gardening and backyard chickens to herbal medicine and sourdough bread, all things related to homesteading, farming, gardening and self-reliant living can be found in the pages of Modern Homesteading Magazine.
The first 24 monthly issues each focused on a specific topic such as canning, fermenting, home dairy, heritage cooking, permaculture and more. In September 2021, the magazine transitioned to a more diverse, quarterly format, with each issue focusing on a range of different seasonal topics that appeal to a much broader readership.
Every subscription to Modern Homesteading Magazine includes an annual subscription (minimum 4 new issues) and unlimited access to our entire digital library of past issues.
*Subscription will renew automatically the following year unless cancelled.

In this time of uncertainty, when it feels like so much in this world is out of our control, modern homesteading offers us a unique opportunity to take back some of our power and enjoy a level of personal security, freedom, connection and control over our lives that so many of us seem to have lost long ago.
Becoming more self-reliant through learning how to produce more of what you need (rather than merely consume) means you don’t have to depend as much on others to provide for you. It also gives you greater control over your family’s overall health and security, all while helping you lessen your environmental impact and live more sustainably.
Let us help you take the next step on your homesteading journey.
Let us help you get back to focusing on what really matters in life.
Let us help you reclaim your independence.
